Lynda Timmons Elvington is a native Texan, and very proud of it. She was born in Fort Worth and raised in the small town of Crowley, just south of Cowtown.
She comes from a “musical” family, so her passion for songwriting comes naturally. She can say that honestly since she claims that she didn’t choose writing, but writing chose her. Lynda explains that her ideas for her original music come to her in dreams at night; “I’m told that his process is known as ‘Divine Inspiration’ and I love that term. I ‘hear” a line or two of lyric and tune as I sleep. I wake up and record what I ‘heard’ and start writing from there. It seems that with the beginning of a lyric and the start of a tune already available, the rest of the song simply falls into place. That doesn’t mean that it’s easy to craft a song that can be rated as ‘commercial’. It’s hard work. I have my songs critiqued by Mr. Rick Beresford in Nashville. Rick co-wrote George Jones’s hit, ‘If Drinkin’ Don’t Kill Me’. He’s tough on me. If something I’ve written stinks, he’s quick to point that out.”
It’s Lynda’s opinion that a song should “move” you. If a song causes you to call that special someone you care about or if it makes you want to “move your feet”, then it’s done its job!
“I’ve had people ask me who my influences are, but I don’t try to fashion my songs after anyone else’s style,” says Lynda. “I believe a writer should be original. I can’t see taking pride in being a copycat.”
Lynda is a member of The Fort Worth Songwriters’ Association, The Tennessee Songwriter’s Association International, and the Nashville Songwriters’ Association, International. In the year 2000, she was chosen as “Most Promising Female Writer” by the Tennessee Songwriter’s Association International. She’s also a member of ASCAP.
Lynda has signed her music with a variety of Publishers, including a Sony Affiliate, Channel Cordial Music Companies in Hendersonville, Tennessee. She has cowritten with Lisa Ashmann of Nashville.
Lynda does not consider herself a singer or performer, but on many Monday nights, you can hear her personal rendition of her original songs during The Fort Worth Songwriters’ Association’s open mic night at The Rig in south Fort Worth.
According to Lynda, “I have ambitions for myself – call them dreams if you wish. I’ll have to wait and see if those ambitions go hand in hand with God’s will. Whatever --- it is well with my soul.”
